acCELLerate, headquartered in Hamburg and with a branch in Skillman, New Jersey, is a specialist life sciences company operating in the field of cell biology. The company prepares customised cell banks known as ‘assay-ready instaCELLs’ – ready-to-use, cryopreserved cells that can be used like a reagent without prior cultivation. These cells are used in drug discovery, the safety testing of chemicals and medical devices, and in the quality control of biologics. With over 20 years’ experience and more than 1,500 different cell lines, acCELLerate is one of the pioneers of this approach in Europe.

The aim of the project was to create a modern, international website that conveys the company’s scientific expertise and clear product structure in a comprehensible and appealing way. The design requirements were demanding: the complex topics surrounding cell banking, functional cryopreservation and validated assay kits needed to be presented in a clearly structured yet high-quality manner to an international specialist audience from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO and testing laboratory sectors.

For us, as a TYPO3 agency, the implementation involved translating this sophisticated design into a powerful, flexible and easy-to-maintain content management system. To this end, a fully responsive front-end was developed that presents the extensive content – ranging from the description of custom cell banking strategies and explanations of quality assurance to the individual instaCELL product lines – in a consistent and clear manner.

A key component of the project was the integration of an online shop through which customers can order instaCELL kits and accessories directly. The shop section includes a shopping basket function and a customer registration process, and has been seamlessly integrated into the overall website. The website is complemented by an editorially maintained news section, where the company provides information on specialist topics, events and the latest developments.

Built on a solid technical foundation using TYPO3, the content can be managed consistently and expanded to include further languages or subject areas. This has resulted in a sustainable long-term platform that effectively supports the company in both its scientific communication and product sales.
