TYPO3 v11 LTS is here! Many enhancements, new features and modern technologies under the bonnet make this version our best TYPO3 release yet. As a Long-Term-Support-Release (LTS), this version will be maintained by the community for at least three years.
In the following, we would like to show a few of the highlights of new functions that are most relevant for users and editors.
When a user logs in to the backend of TYPO3, a username and password are sometimes not secure enough. Many TYPO3 instances contain sensitive data and highly sensitive information. Version 11 offers flexible multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect the login process and increase security.
Now you can make a TYPO3 installation more secure by setting up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) for editors and integrating it with an MFA provider - be it via Time-Based-One-Time-Password (TOTP) or hardware devices (e.g. Yubikey).
Good usability undoubtedly includes a uniform behaviour and appearance in all areas of the CMS. The "File List" module has also been visually revised in TYPO3 v11 LTS.
By using the same technologies as for the page tree, the file tree now also has the same uniform appearance in the navigation area. Editors now have the option to collapse elements, apply a super-fast filter and hide the navigation area when more screen space is needed.
With TYPO3 v11 LTS, bulk editing of files has been greatly simplified. Similar to the list view, editors can select one or more items (folders and files), activate, deactivate and toggle the selection. Once the first item is selected, additional action buttons are displayed. Editors can edit the metadata or delete files. Therefore, working with multiple files at once is now faster and easier than ever before.
Editors will also notice the check boxes on the left side of each record. These can be used to select multiple items at once and perform a specific action on them. In addition, editors can use a context menu to select and deselect all elements with one click and toggle the current selection. This functionality has also been implemented in other areas of the TYPO3 system.
Many people will be very happy about this simplification. We are also thinking of our TYPO3 support, where we often have to ask for click paths in the TYPO3 backend - this is now no longer necessary. Now our customers can simply send us a link and we land exactly where we want to investigate a problem.
In the list view, content is edited outside of normal content elements. This can sometimes be large amounts of data. Editors can now customise the list view to add or remove columns. This gives them the most accurate overview of their data in each table. A filter at the top is particularly useful for large tables. Editors can type a few letters in the input field to easily find the columns they want to add or remove from the list.
Secondary functions of the list view, such as access to additional details of a record or the change history of content items, can be set individually for each table via a new button.
Another button enables the export of data. It is now prominently displayed in the header of each table. But that is not all. Instead of a simple CSV download, editors can now customise the data export and configure the file name, output format (CSV or JSON) and other properties of the export.
TYPO3 is ideal for editing and publishing content together. To further simplify collaboration between editors, TYPO3 now offers "deep links" in the TYPO3 backend.
These are direct links to modules, pages or even specific content elements. Editors can bookmark these links or simply share them so that another user can jump to the same record with one click.
Moreover, copying a link to the clipboard requires only two mouse clicks. On all pages where deep linking is possible, a context menu in the upper area of the module offers the function to create a TYPO3-internal bookmark or to copy the deep link to the clipboard.
These are just the most spectacular changes of many more in this release. All other changes can of course be found in the detailed Release Article on typo3.org.
